INTRODUCTION St. Albans City School initiated a farm-to-school program in 2013 with the help of a grant from the Vermont Department of Agriculture. Much has been accomplished since that point in time with more to come.
Ultimately, we want our children to understand where their food comes from and we want them to know that they have the power to grow it if they care to do so.
This website highlights many of the farm-to-school projects the students and staff have undertaken to date.
MESSAGE from Farm-to-School Coordinator TO TEACHERS
For the past 4 years, my feet have been firmly "planted" in the ground as I work to deliver a quality Farm-to-School experience for the students and faculty of our school. The Farm-to-School program strives to connect students with sustainable planting practices in growing vegetables and fruits at our school, to offer Spring and Fall field trips, and to provide instruction with harvest and cooking demonstrations.
St. Albans City School teachers, if you are interested in engaging your students in a farm-to-school project, please feel free to contact me anytime. Our projects have shown that hands-on learning is very exciting and rewarding for students and teachers. If you have an idea you would like to share with me that supports Farm-to-School core measures, or the school's larger mission to promote stewardship of the earth, then please feel free to let me know.
