Monarch Butterfly Migration. October 2016
Roughly 100 Kindergarten students and their teachers focused on Monarch Butterflies to stimulate learning in October 2016. Monarch butterflies are endangered and our students have worked hard in recent years to ensure that the kinds of plants Monarch butterflies need, like milkweed, are growing well on school property. In addition this year all the kindergarten instructors banded together to imitate a massive butterfly migration to Mexico, the Monarch Butterfly's overwintering country. The farm to school component of this learning experience came when students harvested the ingredients to make salsa that everyone would eat once they arrived in Mexico. The kids loved the migration around and through the large school building, the arrival at Mexico and the celebration once they were there.
